  • Problem Set 1 due Tuesday night
    • should have at least the warmup and 1 or 2 of the main problems completed by now
    • don't hesitate to ask questions!
    • please continue to create Issues for each problem as you have it ready for testing - don't wait until you have them all done!
    • I will watch through the weekend for Issues asking for test cases to be run, but I will be away from the computer for parts of the weekend
    • use any IDE you are comfortable with for now - we'll continue in class and lab getting better with VSCode and the command line
  • Lab 1: Java and Data Structures Refresher (in Canvas and GitHub) due 24 hours before your lab meeting next week
    • some quick reminders related to the data structures mentioned (let's draw some pictures!)
    • tag me in a comment in the document when something's ready for checking
    • submission is just committing and pushing your code, completing the shared document
    • you will see a grade appear in red at the bottom of the document either when you earn the full 100 points or when I make a pass through the remaining submissions after the due date
• Some Java You Know (the exercises below will be mixed in with our discussion here)
• In-class exercises (2.5 assignment points each, total of 10)

  You will submit responses to these by creating a shared Google document named "LastNameInClass2" in your CSIS225 shared folder.

  1. Draw a memory diagram for the StaticStuff example when the main method is about to complete execution.
  2. Rewrite the switch statement in the code segment below with if and else statements:

             Scanner kbd = new Scanner(System.in);
     
             System.out.print("Enter a number 1-10: ");
             int number = kbd.nextInt();
     
             switch (number) {
                 case 1:
                 case 4:

  3. Rewrite the for loop below as an enhanced for loop, where a is an ArrayList<Integer>:

             }
     

  4. Simplify the following using a ternary operator, eliminating the need for the if statement:

             if (numPeople == 1) {
                 System.out.println("1 person attended the meeting.");
             }
             else {
                 System.out.println(numPeople + " people attended the meeting.");
             }
